Long Splicing
The term "long splice" is used to describe a splice made to join two lengths of rope or to make an endless rope, e.g. for an endless haulage so that the rope diameter is maintained as closely as possible with a minimum swelling throughout the length of the splice, thus avoiding undue rope wear at the splice when running over rollers or sheaves.
A properly made long splice in a wire rope results in a minimum loss of rope strength due to splicing and should not be confused with the splice normally used to make an "endless" sling.
